Selecting Between a Screen or Digital Printer for Sticker Printing

With the advancement in technology, sticker printing has also undergone a radical change. There are more innovative sticker printer equipment and printing technologies available today than there were 20 years ago. Digital sticker printers are examples of how technology has influenced and benefited modern day printing industry.
Screen printing vs. Digital sticker printing
In screen printing, a stencil of the required design is first made and then is used to print the design on the printing surface. For each layer of color, a different stencil is used, and a combination of multiple stencils gives the final combination for the sticker.
Digital printing involves creating the design which is then processed by a computer and then applied on the printing surface through a digital printer which applies the colors on top of it.

Advantages Of Using Digital Sticker Printers
If we look at the advantages that sticker printing offers using digital printers, the first and obvious ones are cost and time. Digital printers take very little time to print stickers and the entire process costs less too, as compared to conventional printing methods. The time also taken by such sticker printers is little and thus a whole stack of stickers can be printed very quickly.
In non-digital methods, if there are any changes to be made in the design, shape or colors of the stickers, then a whole bunch of changes are required to be made. On the other hand, when printing in digital format, changes can be made anytime.
It is possible to get a high level of detail and intricate pattern on stickers using digital printers. The layer of ink that is applied is thinner as compared to screen printing, hence greater detail is possible.
Drawback Of Digital Printing
Like always, the fastest method does not provide the best quality, which is true in the case of digital printing as well. Digital prints tend to fade faster as compared to screen prints because of color layer is thinner. Conventional screen prints also come with a protective coat on top of the sticker which enhances the durability of the prints, something that remains absent from digital prints.
When selecting which type of printing is better, the purpose of getting the sticker made needs to be considered. Depending on what the use of the stickers will be, the most appropriate method can be selected, whether digital or screen printing.
